Induction into Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI)

On the 16th of August 2011 the Department of Nursing Science at NMMU hosted an induction function at which all the faculty members and several of its practice partners wereinaugurated into this prestigious international honour societyof nurse leaders. Prof Hester Klopper, Director of Sigma Theta Tau International, didthe induction of new members.World wide there are more than 125000 active members and 475 Chapters in 86 countries.

Prof Hester KlopperThe Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) was started in 1922 by six nurses at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, Ind., USA. The founders chose the name from the Greek words Storgé, Tharsos and Timé meaning "love," "courage" and "honor

The organization urges its members to get recognized, get connected, get involved and to find solutions to nursing issues, by providing many different resources such as the infamous Virginia Henderson library,leadership development opportunities, research grants, journals, scholarships, awards and philanthropic opportunities.

Tau Lambda at Large is an Africa - wide Chapterand has achieved two international awards for excellence in leadership and philanthropy. The chapter has close to 1000 members and represents 15 nursing schools with members in 12African countries.
